Fathers day is mothers day*

Happy Fathers day!
What a blessing to be gifted children.
I feel like everyone says it, so I almost have to.... I have the greatest kids in the world. Seriously, as Davis continues to grow and learn I am amazed at his mind, wit and the kid is just plain funny.
Annie is cuter than humanly fair, she has a spunk that makes me mad and makes me love her all the more.
Incredibly blessed.
But on Fathers day I actually find myself thinking about Katie.

Anyone can make their kids like them at this age. (not taking away from the incredible task of being a parent to kids this age, it's very trying and difficult). But the truth is if I throw Davis up in the air a few times, tickle him and offer him a sucker, I'm an allstar dad in his eyes. If I give Annie her duck, blow on her belly and get her milk she thinks I hung the moon.

But what about Katie?
Does she think I'm a good father?
Do I serve her?
Does she know I choose her over our kids? Does she feel like I lead our family or just seek my own gain in our family?
Katie really knows me, the kids don't know me the way she does.
She knows when I'm serving/helping out of selfish ambition and when I'm truly loving her and the kids.
She knows when I choose to sit on the couch instead of being with them.
I might fool the kids for a year or two, but there is no fooling her.
Long after our kids have moved out of the house Katie and I will still be together.
I hope on fathers day the one I made a covenant with, my wife, is thankful I am the father f her children.
On fathers day there are two things I should really do if I want my kids to really know I love them like crazy:
1. Love Christ above all
2. Show them how much I love their mom and my wife.

Serving, not to get an award, but because He first served me.

What an honor.

Happy Fathers Day.

Can we talk

Trying to spend less time texting, tweeting, blogging, surfing, updating, stalking... and just being with folks.

Katie and I recently decided that we weren't going to have phones at meals.

What could you do to focus on your family more than your text, page, work, email...

You are important to your family...you probably just think you are important to your followers or facebook friends.

I'm the worst, but i'm working on it.

I promise your kids, spouse or family are more important.

Promise.

Myths

When I mow the yard I listen to podcasts.
Sermons.
Usually I can get through 2-3 good sermons between mowing, weed eating and blowing everything off.
I know... I'm a huge dork.

Recently I have been listening to Matt Chandler. I put a video of his up a couple of months ago.

Last week he said a statement that stopped me. Seriously, I stopped mowing, rewound my ipod and listened again.
(I had a really long post written about this statement but decided it only got in the way of these simple, penetrating words.)
Here is the statement

It is a modern myth that you can love Jesus and not have a transformed life.

thinking.
praying.
may we be transformed, not informed.

It is a modern myth that you can love Jesus and not have a transformed life.

Too young

So Annie decided to try and color her hair the other day.
we told her that she was too young.

Actually we just left some red paint out from when Davis was painting and Annie decided to try it everywhere.

Fellowship had our annual staff picnic last night at the Cove down in Farragut. It's pretty incredible to get all of our staff and families together for one event.
While down there some of the younger kids went fishing and Davis touched his first fish. Jacob, our worship leader, is an experienced fisherman and was taking it off of the hook and asked Davis to touch it... katie screamed and said, "It won't hurt him will it?!?" No Katie i don't think this little brim will hurt him. It was funny.

I'm pretty sure Davis now wants to go fishing off of Papa's dock.
I'll leave that up to Katie!!

Forgotten plain ride

I realized yesterday as i was posting annie's walking video that I never put up the video of their first plane ride.
It wasn't as exciting you might think, everyone was pretty chill.
But none the less, here it is.

Moving on

Here you go.

Check in

If you haven't seen your calendar recently it's June.
Wow.

Things have been crazy busy the last couple of weeks.

After a great anniversary with Katie I left to teach at Fellowship's high school camp. I had a great time being with our high school ministry and am so thankful for the level of discipleship that is taking place among our students.
Here is a pic of the road I would walk down each morning on the way to breakfast.

It was so good to see the kids after a couple of days away.
Annie straight up walks now. Quickly. Everywhere. She is a cute walker. She throws her arm out and just goes for it. I'll try to get a video of her for you to see.
We spent a couple of days in the pool over memorial day and that's always fun. We also had a cookout with the Fendleys on Monday evening.

Good things happening.
Life is flying by.
I'm mindful of Ephesians 5--- make the most of EVERY opportunity.
