Dedication and Birthday
Well today was quite a day for our family.
We had the privilege of dedicating Davis at Fellowship this morning. It was a really simple thing, but a time to recognize what a gift Davis is to us.
Today was also Gammie's (Katie's grandmother) 95th birthday! We celebrated with family and friends after church.
Here are some pics of both.

Christmas presents!
Here are some pics of Davis around the house at Christmas. He continues to amaze us as he grows, laughs and becomes his own little person.
We received an amazing early Christmas present today...we found out we are having a little GIRL!!! We were so excited to go to the ultrasound today. It is amazing how quickly this ultrasound snuck up on us this time. At first the little girl was sitting indian style and nothing was to be seen on the ultrasound. But finally after taking some other measurements we were able to see that we are indeed having a little girl. We are SO excited. We think Davis will be a great older brother and excited to have "one of each". Between Christmas, New Year, 1st birthday, etc... we are sure our little girl will be here before we know it.
Please continue to pray for her continued development and health.
Enjoy the pics.

big week
There is a lot going on around our house this week.
- Katie had her ladies small group Christmas party at the house
- Fellowship staff Christmas party
- Our couples small group Christmas party
- Got our first Christmas card with Davis on it
- We find out what we are having on Thursday
- Davis is getting dedicated on Sunday in second service at Fellowship.
Katie and I met with Tim (the pastor doing the dedication) today for lunch. When you stop and talk about dedicating your child to the Lord it really is amazing to think about the gift that we are given in children. How do you hold loosely to them as you entrust them to the Lord but also parent them.
One of the reasons we said we were excited about dedicating Davis was because of the conversations it could lead us to in the future. We hope one day Davis might ask if we had him dedicated and why we did that. Being able to talk with your child about entrusting them to God, allowing the body of Christ to play a part it bringing up a child and saying as parents we will try our best to raise him as God would see fit.
This week at Fellowship we had an amazing song called "A baby changes everything" by Faith Hill. It was great.
Obviously the song is about Christ and how he changes everything in our lives. But Katie and I also said it is also so true of your own children. Nothing, including marriage, has shown me how selfish I am, how much life is not about me, how God is in control, how much better God is, etc...
Thankful for a great week in the midst of a great season of anticipating the coming of Christ.

Baby Fat
Went down half a pound this week. Christmas parties, christmas parties, christmas parties.
Slow and steady wins the race.
On another note.
In less than two weeks the Christmas season is over.
I hope we all will take some time to focus on Christ this season. It is so easy to breeze through the season and never really slow down.
Katie and I are reading a devotional together every morning while Davis takes his bottle and that has been really good to just start the day that way. This was Katie's idea and I am thankful for these times.

Update
Katie spent the weekend in Atlanta with Demetria and some college friends. Leaving me and Davis to fend for ourselves. We ended up spending much of the day Saturday at mom and dad's place helping with their Christmas decorations. Davis loves the mickey mouse figurines. He wasn't exactly sure what to do with Eeyore. I'm pretty sure he thinks our house is boring now.
We did put up our tree last Friday and we had to be mindful of which ornaments went on the bottom as his inquisitive little hands go grabbing for them.
Only 8 days until we find out what we are having. As Davis continues to grow and change I get more and more excited about the new life that is coming our way. I find myself being more and more thankful that God is giving us this gift of life. As amazed as I am of Davis, I can't imagine the joy of another child, that will be so different but just as amazing.

thanksgiving?
So shortly after the last post I got the sickest I have ever been.
It was bad. I'll leave it at that.
So the rest of Thanksgiving break can pretty much be summed up for me in a sore stomach.
Davis was in pretty good spirits all week even though he was sick as well. We are pretty sure he had the roto virus. We could tell yesterday he really turned the corner. On Friday we had to take him to the doctor because he was just not getting better. But after lots of pedialite, thousands(literally)of wipes and diapers later, he is doing better.
(Davis at the doctor)
If you haven't started already , shame on you, but Christmas music is all you should be listening to.

Beautifully Relaxing
We got to Charleston yesterday afternoon. Davis is an absolute CHAMP in the car. We stopped only once on the way over and that was for lunch. All the Neelys are here for the next couple of days, Kristin arrives via Kansas this evening.
Today is a beautiful cool day. Lots of reading, laughing, eating and relaxing.
So much to be thankful for.

Heart beat and babyfat
Katie went to the doctor yesterday and was able to hear the heartbeat for the first time. Everything sounds great and Katie continues to feel good. Her next appointment is Dec 18th and we will find out the sex! What a Christmas present.
I tried pretty hard this hard because I know next week will be killer with multiple Thanksgiving dinners and a couple of days away in Charleston with my family.
I went down 2 pounds this week bringing the total to 10.5 lbs.

Not to be forgotten
It would be easy to focus on Davis, new windows, life, etc... and breeze through this current pregnancy.
But I am trying to remind myself to be just as mindful and prayerful for our new child.
Here is what is happening this week with the new baby:
Fingerprints have formed on your baby's tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head — which makes up just a third of her body size now. If you're having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries. Your baby is almost 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp) and weighs nearly an ounce.
Please continue to pray for Katies health, the babys development, rest, etc...
One week till Thanksgiving- so exciting.

baby fat
so here we are, another week.
I was sick this week and wasn't sure how that would affect my body, but it seemed to do ok.
I was nasal sick, not stomach sick, so I ate pretty much normal.
I changed up the chart a little bit because i didn't want so many weeks, so now you will see the larger piece of the pie is previous weight loss, and the smaller piece is current, meaning "this weeks loss".
This week I went down 3.5lbs.
perhaps i should get sick more often.
If the "Biggest Loser" is any indicator, this coming week could be a tough one. Normally when they drop bigger weights the next week is tough.
We'll see.
Check out the post below if you didn't see the video of my sick day.

sick day
i stayed home from work today sick.
i thought i would let the laptop follow me around and see what that looks like.
it's amazing how when you are sick all you think about is being sick, yet when you are healthy you never think about it at all.
these are kind of weird and amazing.
i am participating in no shave november, you can tell i'm not used to it by the number of times i touch my face.

Halloween and diaper time
Here are some photos of Davis in his halloween costume and time hanging out in his room in only his diaper.
Davis and Katie were supposed to go to North Carolina last weekend but ended up having to cancel the trip to the Smith Reunion (Katie's Grandparents) because Davis was sick for the first time. He had a runny nose, red eyes, and found out yesterday an ear infection.
But he is definitley getting better and returning to his old self.

November
Sorry about missing last week. It was a rough Friday going on a retreat and all and didn't even think about the challenge. I wish I had, because I lost one pound this week, but I wish I knew how much I put ON at a Halloween weekend retreat. Lets just say it is safe to say my fair share of candy, was eaten :( But now we are back in the red.
Happy November.

Been a while
Crazy week. Katie and i were both out of town last weekend on retreats. Katie took some girls from West High School to Young Life's Sharp Top and I was at Horns Creek Resort with the the college students from Fellowship. We both had great weekends and Davis spent the weekend with Grandmommy and Grandaddy (Archie and Susan). He has been a little under the weather this week, real runny nose and more sleepy than normal.
We had some 9 month pics taken this week (on his sickest day of course). So hopefully we will put some up in the next couple of weeks.
On our retreat we had a Halloween party. Thanks to dad for an awesome costume. Everyone wanted to know what I was, i think the best guess was a Mexican game show host.

9 months
Its hard to believe. But today Davis is 9 months old! 3/4 of a year. When we stop to think back over everything he has done and how he has changed it already seems like a lifetime, but then it has also flown by. (i'm sure grandparents right now are thinking- "just wait, one day you'll blink and your kids will be having kids")
He's doing great. He is such a joy and we are so thankful for Davis.
Katie thinks he gets cuter everyday, to which I simply respond- Like father like son :)

Just think, when Davis is twice this old, 18 months, he'll have a sibling! Hard to believe, but so exciting.

pumpkins are good for you
Katie, Davis, Emily, Christian, Neyland, and the McCays went to the pumpkin patch on Thursday. Beautiful day for it and beautiful pics. They packed some PB&J's and enjoyed a picnic lunch. They got to all jump on a hayride and then each pick their favorite pumpkin! Fun was had by all.
Just a few more.
And i know most of you are tuning in to really see how BabyFat Challenge went...no?! What a suprise.
Down 1.5 for the week.
