coming home from work

ain't bad, when you have this to come home to. We finished up a great week at the beach with Fendley's and are now back in the swing of things in Knoxville (at least for a couple of days).
We are off Thursday to Windy Gap for the 4th with everyone up there.
Enjoy the pics.

morning beach walk

Katie and I took Davis on a 6:45am beach walk this morning. He got up early and didn't feel like going to sleep and it was an absolutely beautiful morning, so a little stroll on the beach put him right to sleep and we got to spend some great time together.

heading to the beach

we are loading up the highlander and hitting the road in the morning. Amazingly we are heading back to Folly Beach. We are going with the entire Fendley Family- it should be a great time.
We'll try to upload some stories and photos.
Thankful at this time that Davis travels well.

holy...

well davis had his first "big boy poop". Katie was pretty pumped about this- she was going to save it and let me see, but I promised her that I would see plenty more. He has started eating rice and some banana and pear baby food- delicious. Davis has really started making a lot of noise, here he is rolling around blowing bubbles.

Dr. Jekyl....

and Mr. Davis.
Two different nights. Two different Kids.
Last night Davis made his first appearance at Collegelife (at least the leadership part) and then Katie brought him home and put him down. So for those of you keeping record at home, we put him down at 8pm.
He then proceeded to sleep until 5:30 am- 9.5 hours
I went in and soothed him and he fell back asleep.
I am writing this at 7:02 after working out, and he is still asleep.
That my friends is craziness.

Father's Day was great. I am so thankful for a healthy son, beautiful wife and wonderful extended family. I've said it personally so I think I can say it publicly as well: Thanks to my dad for raising me to be the man I am. If I am half the father to Davis you were to me, I will count it a success.

2 Truths and Lie

"Babies will just cry themselves to sleep"
"I've been in every time zone in the world."
"I once swallowed a live gold fish."

At first glance you would think the bottom two are more far fetched. But no- those are true.
The first one is a lie.
I believe at one point last night I said, "Just put him down Katie, he's not the energizer bunny, he can't keep going and going." False. Apparently he's the energizer bunny, duracell, car batterires and anything else you can think of! He just kept going.
But you know what they say about babies- the only consistent thing about their first year is inconsistency.

(clarification- i ate the goldfish at a Young Life club in Morristown. For further clarification- Demetria made me do it).

a little video of davis today. spit up= awesome

Just the way I like my steak

Well Done!
Muma and Poppa were able to handle the man child that is Davis. They gave him cereal, bathed him, gave him his bottle and got him to sleep!
Unfortunately it was a bad sleep night, don't think it had anything to do with them- it's still just him figuring out his schedule- we still have not finished the 2 week challenge from Meg.
So he woke up around 4 just crying and crying and crying, Katie tried to soothe him but it ended up being the only calm for him was crying himself back to sleep.
Another night down! Pretty laid back day today.
The next challenge- leaving him for 12 hours with the Fendleys on Saturday as we head to a conference with Larry Crabb for the day.
(Note of Clarity: Father's day is coming up and many of you may be tempted to send me steaks, buy me steaks, order me steak or make me a steak- I like my steak cooked medium, not well done. but that doesn't make a good intro to a blog.)

good week

Davis has had a great week. He has gone to sleep every night around 7:30 or 8. He is sleeping all through the night till about 6ish. Which is early, but just encourages us to go to bed earlier.
We have started putting him down solely with a bottle, so he isn't dependent upon Katie to put him down. Last night I gave him the bottle and tonight is the test as Muma and Poppa are taking on the challenge.
We'll update you tomorrow as to how it went.
(fyi- we are going to bible study tonight- we are not just making mom and dad come over and put him down while we watch so you think you can dance- love me some twitch.)

eat up

it's been a long week at the Neely household. we're still trying to get davis on a longer sleep pattern and slowly but surely he is finding it. last night he went a solid 7 hours, cried himself back to sleep and went about another hour and a half. so we're getting there. one thing we're trying is giving davis a little rice before his bath to help him sleep more soundly. right now he just rolls the rice substance around in his mouth, but he seems to enjoy "rice".

he is also loving his johnny jumper.

Been a while

Sorry for the delay in blogging.
It's been a busy couple of weeks.
Katie went to work week at Windy Gap with Davis for a long weekend, I went to Mexico for a week on a college mission trip, we all headed to the beach with Muma and Poppa (Ed and Paulette), came home very relaxed, had a great weekend with Emily's wedding, and are now trying to catch up.
Look for more pics of Davis soon.

You can be praying for him and his sleep patterns. We are trying to put him down earlier so that he will sleep longer. Well the first night we put him down he got up at midnight, the next night he got up at 1:30 and last night he got up around 3. So he is slowly getting better, but crying baby around 3= craziness. But his smile is still killer.
